Comicpalooza 2022 hosted the Itasha showdown Auto show for a second year in a row. The car show geared toward Itasha themed rides had a turnout of over 50 cars all on display at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston Texas. For those who may not know, traditional “Itasha” are cars wrapped and designed based on characters from anime, manga, or video games usually displayed on Japanese Cars. However, this show welcomes a broader definition which includes not only anime, but all forms of comics, pop culture on any and all vehicles. This is referred to as “American Itasha” as coined by Carmic.con, who assisted in bringing this show to life. In our interview with Carmic, he dived into what American itasha means, and the importance of inclusivity in the car community.
Themed rides of all types from trucks to motorcycles were present, and of course Caped Cruisaders could not miss it and were on scene for the entire event. We held our second LIVE Versus competition, between Superman and Wonder Woman. The competition was neck and neck with votes pouring in from both attendees of the show and online votes from our instagram stories. In the end, the wonder woman came out on top and walked away with the $100 gift card, and Caped Cruisaders merch. The Wonder Woman car is dedicated to those the owner lost to cancer and hopes her car can spread a message of hope to all who cross its path. With such an inspiring message, we were honored to give her car a platform. Congratulations to our winner of the Caped Cruisaders LIVE versus and a big shoutout to all our participants. Cruz of Caped Cruisaders appeared as a guest judge for the car show, and the competition was stiff. With over 50 incredible themed rides, it was not an easy task. It was an honor to be a part of such a big event. Comicpalooza was such an incredible arena to portray the dedication these drivers put into their cars. The energy at the show only increased the excitement around the announcement of the awards.
